Utility Post Industry Insight Guidelines

The Industry Insight section of Utility Post is its editorial arm, designed to invite thought leaders in the utility industry to contribute original content on subjects related to their fields of expertise.  The focus of Industry Insight is to inform, promote discussion and highlight developments in the utility industry, based on the thoughts, opinions, and experiences of contributors. The goal of the section is to provide insight and thought leadership from principals in their field, not to promote new products, services, or other offerings.

  • Executive Summary – Please provide us a short synopsis of your proposed column. If approved, you will be invited to submit the complete article.
  • Unpublished Content – Submissions need to be completely original and cannot be published either in print or online elsewhere (including social media, blog posts and newsletters). Upon final submission, Industry Insight articles are for the exclusive use of the Utility Post audience. For our benefit and yours, once an invitation to submit an article has been proffered, we kindly request that you not shop the piece elsewhere.
  • Word Count – Articles submitted for Industry Insight should generally fall between 800 and 1,000 words. If your idea requires further expansion, consider editing it to a multiple part series.
  • Author Attribution – Headshot (minimum 200×200) and title.
  • Visual Aids – If there are graphics that will help illustrate the concepts within your article, please submit them with the final piece (it may also be helpful if you reference them in your initial outline). Please ensure that the images are of a high quality, include captions with each graphic and reference tags (e.g. Fig. 1) if using multiple graphics.

Publication Schedule

We strive to publish each Industry Insight article within one to two weeks of submission, although the final determination is dependent on the number of articles pending. If given enough lead time, we may be able to publish your piece on a specifically requested date.

Industry Insight submissions are welcome on almost every topic related to the utility industry. Popular subjects include:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Demand Response
  • Alternative and Renewable Energy
  • Utility Billing
  • Security
  • Safety
  • Issues Affecting Municipal Energy
  • Trends and Predictions
  • Regulatory Updates

Articles not adhering to these guidelines will be returned for further editing. Submissions may be edited for length or clarity, in which case the author will be apprised of any changes before the article goes live on the Utility Post website.

If you or your company are interested in submitting to Industry Insight or have questions, please contact Brendon Stellman, Editor in Chief, at: brendon@utilitypost.com
